MINUTES - D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Pennsylvania YC

February 3, 2009

 

OPENING: Meeting called to order @ 8:00pm. President Paul Jusino introduced Commodore Zielinski who asked for a moment of silence for PYC member and DRYL delegate, Walt Costello. Steve Zielinski thanked everyone who came out in the snow and acknowledged past princesses and officers in attendance. He also thanked those who helped set up.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: All present except 2nd Vice President, Treasurer and Fleet Surgeon.

ROLL CALL OF COMMITTEE HEADS/ORGANIZATIONS: All present except Cruise, NBF, Picnic and Regatta.

ROLL CALL OF CLUBS: 25 clubs present

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes were approved as published.

 

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: Juice thanked everyone for coming out in the snow. He mentioned NBF delegate, Bob Williams, had surgery for colon cancer and is home recovering. Frank McAfee from Wissinoming YC and Lagoon View had a stroke and is recovering. On January 31, 2009, the DRYL participated in a Polar Bear Plunge at Neshaminy State Park and raised approximately $3000+ for the Special Olympics. Juice thanked PYC for lunch after the plunge. The 5th annual DRYL/NHYC cruise starts this upcoming weekend. Juice was contacted by Delaware River Waterfront Corp formerly the Penn’s Landing Corp about boating safety day about a meeting in February. Juice will report back with the official dates. FYI – by June 1st all NJ boaters must have a safety certificate to boat on the river.

1st Vice President: John Maloney – mentioned the loss of Walt Costello. John also mentioned that two past DRYL princesses recently got engaged.

2nd Vice President: Butch Gricco – no report.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski – mentioned a new PYC member, Al Tibbets, who was killed in a car accident in January.

Secretary: Rick Patton – Forms are available to update delegate information.

Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide – audit will be postponed until treasurer returns. Full report in April.

Banquet: Mary Jusino – February 28 at Cannstatters. 7pm – midnight. Tickets are available for $40 each. Dinner choices are stuffed flounder or prime rib; soda, beer and wine are included in the ticket price. Looking for a guest speaker for banquet. If you know anyone, please contact Mary. Also, we are still looking for door prize donations.

Cruise: Bob Grace – no report.

Donations – no requests.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry Borgersen – no report.


NJ Legislation: John Honer – no new legislation or movement on current issues.

Pageant: Toni Nespola – Let your princess know if your club will be purchasing her ticket for the DRYL banquet.

Picnic: Marie Houseworth – no report.

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood – discussed an article about Petty’s Island and the proposed uses whether they will be recreational or for preservation purposes.

Regatta: Fred Saunders – no report.

Safe Boating: Frank Gilbert – two articles were distributed – safe trailering and tips for night time boating, as well as an article about 2007 boating fatalities

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – no report.

Webmaster: Paul Jusino – Site gets updated twice a month or more if necessary. Take a look. Pictures of Polar Plunge are posted.

Yearbook: Denise Leo – thanks to clubs who have sent in their ads. All ads and club pages are absolutely due by the March meeting or e-mail information to Denise.

Boater Voter: Joe Campbell – no report.

CBYCA: Bob Williams – no report.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – no report.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Bill Garwood – no report.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

·         Still researching a DRYL day at Trenton Thunder ball park.

 

NEW BUSINESS

·         Five nominations were presented for person of the year and vote was made. Winner will be announced at banquet.

·         Host clubs for 2009 DRYL meetings – follow up in March

·         Approval for baskets that were sent to Bob Williams and Walt Costello’s Family

·         Yearbook - $200 for yearbook cover

·         Banquet - $200 for door prizes

·         Pageant - $1200 for awards

·         Pageant - $675 for Seaport Museum

·         Secretary - $64.37 for supplies

·         Secretary - $292.25 for PDQ printing

FINANCIAL REPORTS

Checkbook opening balance for December was $13,043.62. Mike Kovacs reported income of $2,480.00 (including $46.00 from last month) while Joe Campbell reported disbursements of $2,759.62 resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $12,764.00. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.

 

GOOD AND WELFARE

·         Bordentown YC Atlantic City bus trip on February 8th - $30/pp or $50/couple.

·         Bordentown YC cigar night on February 12th - $30 gets you 3 cigars and a steak dinner

·         Bordentown YC trivia night on February 21st at 7pm

·         Jimmy Buffet will be appearing at the NJ Waterfront two times this summer

·         Pennsylvania YC hosts a friendly night on the first and third Wednesday of the month which includes an all you can eat dinner for $7/pp

·         Pennsylvania YC bingo on Wednesday nights

·         Joe Campbell spoke about Walt Costello

·         Bill Garwood mentioned an article in Philadelphia Inquirer about Walt Costello where Walt worked for many years

·         Denise is looking for people to take pictures at the banquet

·         Juice represented the DRYL at Walt Costello’s funeral

·         50/50 won by Ron Peterson of Happy Hour YC - $46
